Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG
Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG
Using CT scans to carefully map and study the structure of the rare original 'Big Bubble' release, the big bubble has been reinstated into the midsole unit, giving it a pronounced look and emphasises the MAX in Air Max. The date is 1986, with a launch date in place and manufacturing already started, Nike engineers (to their dismay) discovered that an exposed Air unit had a tendency to crack in cold temperatures. Reductions were made to the bubble's size for pairs produced after the fateful discovery. Upon its release, the rare big bubble iteration held up to the conditions, making it a successful model that eventually faded into obscurity. Another welcomed alteration to the silhouette is the wide toe box, with red overlays that have a smooth finish to them. This contrasts previous Air Max 1 re-releases that have a slimmer toe box with a textured finish to the overlays. The grooves in the midsole have been altered to fit the bigger bubble, as well as slight alterations to the woven tongue label that echo the original production. Ultimately, you will not find a more accurate homage to the original Air Max 1, the trainer that changed the course of streetwear culture forever. This is a must have piece of history, a hallmark in sneaker aesthetics, coming just in time for Air Max Day.
