Hailing from Tokyo's Asakusa district, famed for its leather craftmanship, Hender Scheme is a progressive and artisanal goods manufacturer that champions the art of the handcrafted. Founder Ryo Kashiwazaki honed his craft as a cobbler, from which the idea of Hender Scheme was birthed, a pure and genuine approach to leather goods that supported his local industry and craftsmen. The product's presentation may appear to be wearable art, sublimely perfect in its clean minimalist form, but Kashiwazaki stresses that the product becomes perfect when the wearer has left their unique marks in the creases of the leather. 

The Manual Industrial Products (MIP) line is the brand's best known collection, reinterpreting popular massed produced trainers with the Hender Scheme philosophies and handmade processes. Aiming to find the line between mass-production and exclusivity, these homages to sneaker culture are an important commentary on consumerism as well as an historical marker in the world of design.
