New Balance

For over a hundred years, New Balance sneakers have been at the forefront of performance footwear. With a core belief that “we were born to move”, New Balance pride themselves on supporting everyone in their pursuit of excellence, from professional sportspeople to everyday athletes. Iconic silhouettes include the 991, the 1500 and the 990 series, as well as newer drops like the MS327.

New Balance was originally founded in 1906 as New Balance Arch Support Company, when an Irish immigrant named William J. Riley started manufacturing arch supports to improve shoe fit. After closely observing chickens in this garden, Riley created a flexible arch support, designed with three support points to provide the ‘perfect balance’ – much like a chicken’s foot.

It wasn’t until the 60s that New Balance released their first sneaker: the Trackster. The shoe was the world’s first running trainer to come in varying widths, and also featured a world-first ripple sole. The Trackster was quickly picked up by college sports teams, becoming the unofficial shoe for cross-country runners in colleges and high schools across the country. Spurred on by running boom that hit the US in the 70s, New Balance sneakers eventually became a staple in every mainstream shoe store in America.

What started as footwear accessories has gone on to be one of the most recognised names in performance footwear, with the brand expanding to design lifestyle, hiking, walking and football shoes.
