Although it’s commonly assumed to be an acronym for ‘All day I dream about sports’, the name adidas actually comes from the brand’s founder, Adolph (Adi) Dassler. The adidas brand was the culmination of a passion for football and a family history of shoemaking. Back in 1920, Adi – a soccer fanatic and the son of a cobbler – invented spiked shoes to help in on the field. By the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, Adi’s unique style of shoes were gaining worldwide fame. After splitting from his brother Rudi, who went on to found Puma, Adi officially registered adidas in 1949, with its staple three-stripe logo added a few years later.

Fast-forward, and adidas have established themselves as the go-to brand for millions of sneaker lovers. Fuelled by an incomparable passion for sport, adidas trainers have been featured everywhere from the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics to catwalks, festival stages and premium fashion outlets.

The adidas brand is broken down into two divisions: the innovative, evolving performance shoes, and the adidas Originals, the area devoted to lifestyle fashion and heritage products. The Originals range is home to some of the brand’s most famous collaborations, including YEEZY and Pharrell Williams.
