Hikmet Sugoer is probably best known as founder of Germany’s Solebox but at the end of 2013 he sold off the brand name and in 2105 he fully left the store. Now he’s got a new project in the works and we are proud to announce that we will be one of the select few stockists (and sole UK stockist) of his new SONRA endeavour.
For such a personal release we thought it best to share the letter from Hikmet himself describing this new project in his own words:
“Dear Friends & Sole Lovers,
Finally I can announce the release date of the first SONRA proto. First colourway will be the “BAE – Before Anyone Else”. Only 100 pairs will be made. Each pair is individually numbered.
Customers desire non-irritant leather. Most conventional leather cannot fulfill this wish. The increasing number of skin allergies inter alia against chrome leather have been known to dermatologists for a long time.
SONRA protos are made of the most environmental- and skin- friendly leathers on the market. Modern production techniques in the leather industry can save energy, raw materials and waste. Unfortunately these techniques often do not occur in undeveloped and developing nations. The tanning of leather with chrome has been used since the 19th century. Today 85-90 % of the worldwide leather production, in total approximately 24 billion square foot (2007estimate), was tanned with chrome.
SONRA protos are made of vegetable (Tara/Valonea) tanned leather from Germany. Free from heavy metals. Each pair of shoes is handcrafted and Made in Germany. “
