Inspired by the democratic process of this year’s presidential run, Extra Butter partnered with Saucony to introduce the “For the People” Social Design Experiment.
This never-before-done project gave the public the power in the creative process, giving insight and first hand experience of what a collaboration involves. Extra Butter took to social media to let you cast your votes. Along the way, followers made sneaker history by helping decide shoe model, concept, colourway, material, and even critiqued first-round samples via Periscope livestream.
The wait is over. What we end up with is a Shadow 5000, designed and inspired by a “Nite At the Drive-In” theme. The colourblocking reflect that of the classic automobile colours popular during the 50’s, dressed in full grain leather, Wolverine pigskin suede and patent leather. Signature to Extra Butter’s approach, its in the details that make this design special- featuring chrome grill accents, custom graphic tongue label and insole, reflective red inspired by taillights, and checkerboard accent laces. The custom graphics box is also transparent of the “Nite at the Drive-In” theme, co-branded tissue paper, as well as an intro explaining the premise of the #EBFTP project.
