The Reebok Phase 1 made its official debut in 1984 with the Pro edition releasing later that year. By 1985, the shoe had become one of the hottest commodities on the shelf at the Packer Shoes Yonkers store and other urban-based retailers around the country. Although it was original created to be a performance tennis shoe, one of the driving forces behind the Phase 1’s popularity was the fact that it quickly became a go-to choice for fashionable street hustlers of the time.
With its sleek, luxe look, the Phase 1 could be found flaunted on the feet of stylish trendsetters on the mid-80s corners of NYC and other cities and quickly spread from there. As a nod to the model’s original outlaw roots, the Packer “Corner ’85” edition takes it back to its glory days with materials and design cues pulled straight from that era.
Hearkening back to a time when street style was ruled by black leather, gold jewellery and exotic reptile skins, the Packer Phase 1 re-imagines the iconic silhouette in a look that would have felt right at home. The shoe features premium black garment leather uppers with croc-embossed white leather on the tongues and heel tabs. A gum outsole adds another classic element with the icing on top coming by way of faux gold accents on the lace tip aglets and nameplate-inspired Packer-branded lace dubraes.
