The Nike Internationalist made history in 1982 in New York City. This shoe carried champion distance runner Alberto Salazar for 26.2 miles. As it was originally designed for long distance running and through it’s use of PermaFoam insoles it was designed to be comfortable for any distance.
However this wasn’t the only appearance of the Internationalist in popular culture. Back in 1985 a director by the name of John Hughes made an extremely influential film by the name of The Breakfast Club, in that film amongst many memorable moments is a dance scene and in that scene Brian “The Brain” Johnson is seen sporting a pair of Internationalists in their OG navy and yellow colourway.
Fast forward to 2106 and the Internationalist has seen many colourways and iterations but none perhaps as up to date as these two. Coming in either a black or white digital camo, the Swoosh and lace stays have an almost gel-like finish giving a semi-opaque look and allowing you to see details from the digi-camo underneath through them.
