Following on from the introduction of the latest Flyknit innovation to the Air Force 1 stable, Nike present some more colour options to the hightop style. Utilising a similar multicolour as the first drop they’ve flipped the Swoosh and strap detailing to black rather than white. Joining them is a blue version with the same colour blocking on the Swoosh and strap.
The Air Force 1 has been one of Nike’s most iconic silhouettes and over the last 30 odd years very little has changed. This time around and through the use of Flyknit technology Nike have managed to make an “uptown” that retains the look and feel of the original but is 50% lighter.
They’ve gone back to the drawing board with this iteration by taking an old Flyknit upper, taking the sole out of it and creating a AF1 sole unit in a 3D printer and gluing them back together with the lines of the AF1 then drawn on the Flyknit itself. The sole unit has phylon tooling, similar to the Roshe and because there’s nothing between you and the foam they provide an even more comfortable fit than a standard AF1. Other familiar details have been kept or adapted with the 52 stars present on the outsole of the tip and heel as well as the “Air” on the sidewall getting an inverted treatment. These are also a first for Nike with the use of Flyknit and leather together with the Swoosh, backtab and strap being made of leather like the original.
