Following New Balance's Bibliosmia pack are a brace of Flimby heavyweights each with DJ at the end of the SKU code. With those letters abbreviating it'd be forgivable to think this latest pack takes its inspiration from a pair of Technics 1210's and an accompanying set of fuzzy slip mats. This latest pack however takes its inspiration from traditional British workwear in the Donkey Jacket.
For those not from these isles or unfamiliar with this aforementioned piece of industrial tailoring, here's a brief potted history of sorts on the Donkey jacket. Developed in the late 1800's with some dubiety over who was the very first to stake claim to its invention. What is certain that its the North of England - that can lay claim to it's start in life. A squeal to the sack coat the donkey Jacket was a some what tailored straight fitting boxy work jacket made usually with Melton wool and leather overlay patches on the shoulders (these were later replaced with PVC much cheaper...) it's believed that the 'donkey' part of the name came from the British slang phrase of 'Donkey work' referring to the repetitive and laborious work prevalent in industrial Britain. In the subsequent decades the humble Donkey jacket went on to become the uniform of bin men, laborers, guests of her majesty, factory workers, trade unionists and perhaps most prominently the Miners.
These latest 991's & 1500's arrive draped in leather and Harris Tweed®. The smooth leather overlays contrast the rough & rugged yet refined nature of Harris Tweed® giving a truly contrast in texture. The signature embroidered branding at the tongue and heel feature across both styles.
