New Balance 576 35th Anniversary

To celebrate 35 years of the iconic Made in UK 576, New Balance have released two anniversary editions of the 576 in OG colourways. Regarded by many as the quintessential NB shoe, the 576 incorporates everything that makes Flimby's finest so great. Featuring premium UK made CF steads suede, paired with mesh luxurious pigskin and synthetic details. All atop New Balance’s classic ENCAP midsole with motion control device and rubber outsole.
The 576 (update to 575) was first released in 1988, arriving as one of the last of the traditional “big N” silhouettes. Designed as an all-terrain training shoe it was originally built to withstand anything a runner could throw at it. Using the SL-2 last (rather than SL-1) it gave the shoe a wider fit and roomier toe box to account for the extra mileage. The sneaker found a place in Europe’s trail scene, and later, the streets of Japan. The sneaker was brought back in the 1990s and managed to win over quite a few more fans, with it’s bold colour blockings and account exclusives helping the model’s numbers grow into a lifestyle staple.
Sam Pearce, Creative Design Manager for Made in UK said:

The 576 has taken on many different forms and variations over the years, but now, with the model clocking its 35th anniversary we wanted to give the consumer the true experience of this shoe in its original form. Meticulous care was taken at a pattern and engineering level to replicate details such as the tongue construction, branding placement and even the shoes stitch weight. This bring-back, based on an original Japanese catalogue spec, represents its most authentic version to date.”
The New Balance 576 survives as a mainstay of the Flimby-produced range with the model constantly dressed up in themes associated with their UK birthplace. The 576 is a gleaming example of Flimby’s pivotal place within New Balance’s domestic manufacturing, and testament to the art of craftsmanship which has persevered through ever changing landscapes. Flimby continues to deliver some of New Balance’s most loved models and is home to long-serving factory associates, with generations of families working on the production line. Made in UK’s rich back catalog enables New Balance to continuously draw inspiration to create quality new shoes which are coveted world over.
