IN FOCUS: New Balance M1500TBT & M1500TGG

The reissue flame is well and truly lit down in the rolling hills of Cumbria as the dedicated team at Flimby present this seasons’ latest archive resurrection.

The Steven Smith designed 1500 originally launched to the world in the late 80’s as New balance’s latest running incarnation and went on to become perhaps one of the brands most revered and iconic silhouettes to date. Largely thanks to an astonishing back catalogue of in-house bangers and a collection of SMU’s with sneaker boutiques & brands across the globe.  The 1500TBT (Known as the TB originally) launched in 2006 to a country-in the midst of World Cup fever with the emerging sounds of UK-Funky ringing in ears. Its subtle yet effective make-up lead to it establishing itself as a bit of a cult classic and further helped cement New balance’s in-house 1500 line as something to look out for.

You can read some more on the origins of the 1500, featuring some words from our in-house NB aficionado Thomas here.

Back to the present and 2019’s reworking arrives a premium specification as we’ve come to expect from New Balance’s Flimby factory. The lower portions of the toe, midsection & heel feature a tough, yet rich leather finished in bronze on the TBT and an appealing Olive drab rendition on the TGG that gives off big Surplus pack vibes, which can only be a good thing in our book! Remaining faithful to the source material each 1500’s lands boasting performance mesh panelling, embroidered colour coded flying N’s & subtle 3M detailing all akin to the 2006 master.
