COCO KNOWS HER AIR MAXES
Colleen Kilroy is a Scottish-based creative and long-life sneakerhead who has been making waves on Instagram with her picture-perfect sneaker closet, representing the increasing number of female collectors claiming the once male-dominant space. Deep in the culture for years, Coco knows her stuff.
To celebrate the release of the Air Max 1 'Dirty Denim' and 'Crepe Hemp', we went down to Glasgow to spend the afternoon with Coco, discussing the influencer's own journey with sneakers, noughties AMs and how to open the culture up to more women. As part of this revitalized chapter in the early 2000’s storyline, we photographed Coco styling the latest reissues from the Swoosh. Be warned, serious sneaker envy ahead.
Staying true to Coco's love for the classics and hype releases, the Air Max 1 'Dirty Denim' nods to the coveted 2003 drop that brought an aged-to-perfection look of washed denim which just gets better with time. Paired with her favourite jeans, we're here for the double denim look that Coco has gone for. Premium leather panelling with a Lemon Wash midsole boosts the vintage aesthetic, while classic stitching along the mudguard and heel adds Americana flair. With this throwback look, worn well and well-worn have become one and the same.
As the afternoon passes, chatting with Coco about the industry, her holy grail sneaker, and her love of all things Swoosh, so does our Nike journey through time. Turning back the clocks to 2004 to the coveted Air Max 1 'Crepe Hemp'.
Hemp canvas, tick. Suede mudguard, tick. Crepe outsole aesthetic, tick. Easy-to-style with a plain white tee, tick.
Completing the look, it's Mint Foam accents contrast and compliment the Medium Brown and Natural upper. For a high-end finish, its distinct (and super soft) outsole adds an air of sophistication that'll keep heads turning.
