European modernism meets the energy of British youth culture. Raf Simons brings his bold and graphic approach to iconic Fred Perry styles, finding a match for his ethos of proud individuality.

The Fred Perry shirt is the foundation for Raf Simon’s fifteenth collaboration. The classic pique shirt has been subtly skewed with details borrowed from the Belgian designers’ personal line, fitted with darts.

The bold colour palette is reflective of Swiss graphic design colours; England red, black and white. Denim features on the collar, cuffs and yoke of pique shirts,as well as on elbow patches of the crew neck sweaters and adds a distinctively utilitarian appeal.

A special washed denim and jersey pocket has been created and sits above the Laurel Wreath throughout the collection. The denim shirt jacket has a slightly boxy cut, reminiscent of classic work wear shapes. It has multiple patch pockets, neatly rolled up sleeves and sturdy metal dual-branded buttons which give the jacket a more tailored, smart feel; a demonstration of Raf continuing to blur design boundaries.

With a strong interest in subcultures and a belief that youth culture is about action and reaction, Raf Simons is both a fan of the brand as well as a collaborator. For the Belgian designer, it’s not a case of ripping up and starting again, imbuing modernity into a classic is key. This marriage of his simple, angular tailoring with Fred Perry’s icons results in an understated subversion of classic sportswear pieces.
