FIRST LOOK: adidas Originals Week 6 Launches

February’s rolled in and brought the snow blizzards with it. Thankfully this refreshed offering from adidas has also arrived, which sees a mugful of classics garnished with reworkings and 2.0’s aplenty!

Kicking things off is a shoe about adidas as it gets. The Gazelle’s been gracing product catalogues, store shelves and enthusiasts’ feet since the mid ’60s appearing in countless guises and adapted to fit just about any situation you could reasonably expect to find yourself in. This rendition cuts straight to the point, delivering an undiluted gazelle experience. The upper see’s a textured rough ‘hairy’ suede finished in ‘Active Blue’. White leather is applied to the iconic three stripes and heel tab to provide an effective contrast. Adidas sign off the Gazelle in trademark fashion, with gold foil lettering proudly calling out the Gazelle name.

Following on from the Gazelle are two reworkings of another bona fide classic, the Samba. Starring in a collaboration with Have A Good Time last year and kicking off 2019 with a Boost sole rework the samba’s seen its fair share of action in recent times. This latest rendition doesn’t stray too far from the tried and tested Samba recipe. The Upper retains that sharp football boot-like shape and a traditional rubber cup sole unit runs beneath for a double helping of classic appeal. The main point of difference arrives on the midsection, the iconic three stripes shift upwards verging onto the lace, a move that dramatically changes the side profile of the shoe. The tongue adopts a similar design style with the addition of a pull tab for both aesthetic purposes and functionality.

The adidas 3ST.004 is a hybrid model that drops here in its latest updated guise. Following on from the 3ST.003, aka that mid-height version that BAPE got their hands on last year. The 2019 version like its predecessors before it, takes all those snippets and things you've come to admire and dig from adidas, and put it all together viewed through a multi-purpose fisheye lens. Suited to skaters and non-skaters alike these latest versions use alternating combinations of suede & leather to great effect. Gum rubber outsoles keep these feeling suitably classic, while a portion of boost is visible at the back reminding you that adidas's most responsive cushioning to date is looking after all the important stuff down below.

Riding high after back to back collabs with Italian Don's C.P. Company & Boston Stalwarts Bodega in 2018. The Kamanda returns, harking back to its terrace shoe inspiration. The familiar upper sits atop the wave-like textured sole unit. Gold branding touches and three stripe perforations on the midsection seal the deal as well as doffing the cap to its terrace DNA.

This week's delivery also sees another helping of I-5923, offered here in a neutral toned-down palette, something of a contrast to January's I-5923 offering. Making use of a familiar material mix of 'stretchy' nylon and suede panelling to strike a balance between its heritage inspiration and lightweight contemporary build. A full-length boost midsole runs beneath to offer reassuring levels of comfort.

The adidas Rivalry is perhaps the brands most recognisable basketball style. Originally worn by Patrick Wing on court in the unmistakable 'Knicks' colourway. Renowned at the time for its construction featuring a purpose-built cup sole unit, full grain leather upper, harness lace up & ankle flex zone. Having been on somewhat of a hiatus in recent years adidas Consortium partner Eric Emmanuel recently reworked the iconic court style as part of his capsule collection with adidas. The reworkings continue with adidas premiering this bold new take. Pitched more so for wear off the court, the 2019 Rivalry RM takes the style in a fresh new direction, doffing the cap to Alexander Wang's recent works with adidas along the way. The sole sees an overhaul with a boost unit applied for max comfort. The upper calls out the OG The upper calls out the OG with a perforated upper that sees a spacious perf pattern applied. Colour pops appear via an embroidered detail on the three stripes.
