EVENT RECAP: PUMA x Sankuanz

A short hop across ‘La Ville des Lumières’ and we found ourselves at the second PUMA event of the evening, a celebration of the big cat's upcoming collaborative collection with Chinese brand Sankuanz.

Sankuanz to those unfamiliar are a Chinese label quickly making a name for themselves thanks to successive collections and runway shows that have positioned the brand at the forefront of contemporary fashion and the ever-emerging lines of streetwear and high fashion.

PUMA x Sankuanz launching at HANON Friday, February 1st ONLINE; 23:00 GMT.

Taking over Espace Cinko in downtown Paris, a charming exposed stonework event space housed in one of the largest covered passages in Paris, with an enviable live event space downstairs to boot. (more on that in a minute) Walking through the doors and into the gallery space that had been temporality transformed into a club space lit by a range of UV, strobe and glowing green lights.

A strong showing of upcoming product greeted us upon entry in each of the ground floor spaces. A room sized installation displayed the four-shoe strong collection from PUMA & Sankuanz with each shoe perfectly positioned in a symphony of light cycles, sound and metal poles. Across the hall stood the pop-up bar where the team of skilled mixologists prepped and served Dark & Stormy after Dark & Stormy (Its as if they knew we were swinging by, Bon choix PUMA!)  whilst waiting for a drink at the bar this allowed us a chance to really check out some of the collection that hung on rails across from the bar.

One of the undeniable highlights of the PUMA x Sankuanz offering is the RS-X an impressive new style from PUMA that builds on the RS-System reintroduction that we saw in early 2018. For this take Sankuanz have opted to keep the base simple using black and white to outline the chunky yet sharp looking silhouette with bright hits of acidic lime green and royal blue working wonders to define the upper. Further details arrive via the Sankuanz branded tag and script logo called out on the midsole. Repeat print laces and reflective detailing complete the offering.

For the Cell Endura we see a similar philosophy in action with a subtle base that uses earthy hues before some serious standout colour pops appear, to grab the attention. In this instance a neon green ‘cage’ sits across the upper with the same application used on the script logo on the midsole. A metallic blue finish coats the outsole to tie thing together.

If the installations and mixologists were enough PUMA & Sankuanz made full use of Espace Cinko’s downstairs event space turning it into a basement club. The club space served as a physical representation of the inspiration behind the capsule collection as well being a great opportunity to put on some ‘bangin’ tunes in a worthy space. A tight mix of electro and other bass rattling club jams kept all engaged with people even dancing – Who’d have thought it!

I think it’s safe to say PUMA & Sankuanz put on a pretty good show in Paris. Keep your eyes on the blog in the coming weeks for some shots we grabbed of the PUMA Cell Endura x Sankuanz whilst out and about in Paris.

Thanks again PUMA until next time…
