April 27th saw adidas SPEZIAL and Liam Gallagher come together to present a live performance at the King George's Hall in aid of Blackburn-based charity Nightsafe. For those unfamiliar, Nightsafe are a charity organisation set up in 1990 by a group of local people, with the aim of alleviating the plight of homeless and vulnerably housed young people within the borough of Blackburn with Darwen and surrounding areas. The concert also marked the announcement of the second adidas SPEZIAL x Liam Gallagher collaboration dubbed the adidas SPZL LG2 as seen on the feet of the main man himself as he took to the stage in the capacity filled venue. We jumped on a train from Aberdeen and headed to the King George's Hall to see what was what.

Opened on October 21st, 1921 some 20 years after its initial conception, the 3,500-seat concert hall, with its war memorial organ, was known as King George’s Hall. Built in the classical style of stone from Butler’s Delph in Pleasington, the Blakey Moor front has Corinthian columns at first floor level over a three-arched entrance which leads into a spacious entrance hall, with a staircase on each side made from Huddersfield stone. A characterful building fit for a biblical names to grace the stage, they don't build them like they used to...
First up on the bill and setting the tone for the night were local lads 'The Illicits'. The four piece group brought their youthful swaggering energy and loud guitars to suitably get the crowd going.
The main event...9:00 PM. Liam Gallagher takes to the stage to rapturous appreciation from the capacity crowd. Opening with classic Oasis number 'Hello', it was clear that it was going to be a memorable night.
The shoes! - Based on Liam Gallagher's love for the vintage adidas Barrington Smash, Gary Aspden & co began the process of properly doing their homework pull together as many vintage and different reference pairs available to them. The LG shoe would look to reference and take elements from the series of shoes first developed for Jonah Barrington but ultimately make something new and something that was it's own creation in it's own right.
Exploring ‘shades of whites’ and contrasting material choices, the shoe features a chalk white nylon upper, which is sat atop a gray and white EVA Die cut midsole with a rubber outsole. A number of tonal details then give texture to the look including: light gray flocked stripes, an asymmetric suede overlay on the toe box with a matching suede overlay on the heel and an asymmetric rubber toe guard.
A set list brimming with the charismatic front man's new material as well as those classics everyone wants to sing along to, with Cigarette's & Alcohol going down a storm with the chorus & those Stratocasters reverberating around the grandiose Edwardian Hall.
To quote the man himself. Biblical. Thanks for having us adidas.
