Last Thursday, we headed out to the Dutch capital Amsterdam to celebrate the release of the first release of the 2020 adidas City Series. With the release of the adidas Amsterdam already eagerly anticipated by terrace-heads across the UK, we were looking forward to seeing how this classic adidas style would be received on the continent.
With darkness fallen on the city, we headed across the river to the Amsterdam-Noord area where the event was being held. Located at Skatecafe with its 5-a-side outdoor football pitch and large industrial feeling garage space, our attention was drawn instantly to the right-hand-side where Gary Aspden had curated an exhibition of around 40 pairs of adidas trainers which have all played a pivotal part in making up the footwear seen across the terraces throughout the UK. On the other side of the room was the bar which had been dressed with various football scarves from across the world.
Kicking the evening off with a pub quiz which was centered around Dutch football, we're certain we came close to last, but we quickly forgot about our poor performance and turned our attention to the panel talk. Hosted by Menno Pot (journalist, football writer, and Ajax Amsterdam supporter) he was joined by Gary Aspden (no introduction necessary), Tommy Triggah (Dutch trainer connoisseur), and Rolph van Heyster (co-owner of Calico Jack Store), where they discussed all things football, terrace, Amsterdam, and adidas.
Thanks to adidas for having us! Unfortunately, the adidas Amsterdam release has already been and gone, but stay tuned for the next City Series release, coming soon to HANON...
