Originally launched in 1988 as a technical running shoe and a continuation of the iconic three-digit series, the ZX420 was built for long distance running and a precursor to the thousand series that was to follow in the late 80’s.
adidas follow up some recent collaborative efforts on the silhouette with a drop of some new colourways on the satisfyingly proportioned runner.
First up is the "420" edition featuring long hairy suede panels mimicking those sticky green kush textures with added purple highlights on the three stripes, midsole, and lining to pop against the natural green hues and give the shoe some added 'skunk' flavoring.
Following the 420 celebration is the "Year Of The Ox" ZX420 which celebrates Chinese New Year. The ZX receives a full faux pony hair upper resplendent in a cow skin print with white and lucky red detailing. A bulls nose ring jewel features on the laces for added commitment to the theme.
Rounding off the drop is a straightforward, no-nonsense, maroon and navy offering which sees the expected fusion of suede paneling, mesh underlays & signature adidas branding via a woven tongue label, embroidered trefoil on the heel and of a set of 3 stripes on the side.
