adidas SPEZIAL returned for Fall-Winter 2018 with a collection of apparel, footwear and accessories that continued to tell the story of Acid House in the year of its 30th anniversary. Focusing on the cultural phenomenon of warehouse parties, that first ‘Acid Winter’, and how the legacy of those first generation ravers continues to endure through the energy of 21st century sound systems.
Inspired by those parallels between the modern sound system subculture and early Acid House, it tells the story of how that fashion and music has had a lasting global influence – and how adidas was a key element within it. This premium range returns with a bold, colourful and boundary-pushing offering.
To celebrate the collection, we took a trip back into Gary Aspden's archive with the man himself and showcased all the SPEZIAL footwear to date, as well as a few prototypes and one offs (The Wensley 1 of 2 's for Noel Gallagher being a personal favourite...) from earlier seasons alongside some of the OG shoes that inspired the current season.
With the beers flowing, and a full house, Mike Chetcuti took us on an excursion through his record crate, sound-tracking the evening to the sound of Chicago House and instantly familiar squelchy 303 acid notes. Especially made for the event, HANON x adidas SPEZIAL totes were handed out. Which included this seasons lookbook and an exclusive adidas SPEZIAL x R&S record. The latest production from Show Studio & Nick Griffiths screened on loop throughout the night providing some very apt visuals to proceedings.
