HANON x Superga 2390

This Autumn, HANON join forces with Superga; an Italian footwear brand who have been making footwear for over 90 years and one of the first to produce tennis shoes with vulcanised rubber soles. We are proud to launch a collaboration on their 2390 silhouette, a staple style that was initially developed for use by the Italian army.

For this project, we teamed up once again with legendary textile manufacturer Halley Stevensons to utilise their P200 Hybrid Aero fabric. Established in 1864, Halley Stevensons originally produced sail cloth for the fishing fleets of Scotland at their Baltic Works factory in Dundee. Today the company operates from exactly the same premises and is globally recognised as a pioneer and leading manufacturer of oiled and waxed cotton as they continue to supply the outdoor and fashion industry worldwide.

The Supega 2390 is a product of a contract between Superga and the Italian army and was developed with the purpose of providing them with training shoes. The HANON 2390 edition is a rework of the original model and merges military heritage with a contemporary look and feel. Executed in lush rust coloured pig suede across the toe, tongue, and lacestay, this is then contrasted by orange P200 Hybrid Aero - a 100% cotton performance fabric by Halley Stevensons. Densely woven, P200 is an untreated natural material that offers waterproofing and breathability due to the heavy fibres and weaving technique.

Built for foul weather, we’ve applied a rain camo pattern to the Halley Stevensons fabric which pays homage to that military heritage of the Superga 2390. To further rework this silhouette, we’ve switched out the familiar rubber toe cap and replaced it with pig suede which adds to the premium feel of the shoe. Dual branding appears on both tongues by way of a looped leather label, as well as insoles which feature a rain camo printed textile base with a stitched leather top layer.

The upper of our HANON 2390 is then sat atop a clean white vulcanized sole unit with a glossy finish. Each pair is presented in a sleek military green rain camo printed box with dual branding, as well as a hangtag and three cotton lace sets.
