Exhibition: Abstract Art
“Abstract art can be bizarre and baffling, it can also be funny, frivolous and fascinating. Sometimes it can be challenging, stimulating and exciting.
Abstract art is a kind of visual thinking with colour, shape and form. It is based on the inner experience of the artist rather than the appearance of outer reality.
Following the invention of photography some artists questioned the need for copying the world around them when photographs could do the job so well. They moved away from representational art and towards exploring spiritual and emotional ideas and looking at patterns and shapes.
‘The object of art is to give life a shape’. William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The nature of abstract art is evocative rather than descriptive. It can stimulate our senses and inner feelings without storytelling.”

Exhibition: Balmoral Phenomenon
“Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were so enchanted by Scotland that they decided to find a holiday home in Aberdeenshire.
Surrounded by loch, mountains and moors, Balmoral Castle say on the banks of the River Dee and offered private refuge far from the public eye. This is where the Royal couple could indulge their passion for Highland life from tartan and bagpipes to picnics and porridge.
Their love of the area was deeply embedded in the Victorian longing to recreate a Highland romance is Scotland as portrayed in Sir Walter Scott’s novels. Balmoral played a key part in establishing a social phenomenon that shaped our view of Scottish culture and identity, both real and invented.
This display explores the Royal love affair with Balmoral and the Scottish Highlands. Victorian notions of Scottish identity have since been challenged through the work of contemporary artists.”

Each pair is then presented in Padmore’s signature shoe box with gold foil branding on the lid, branded tissue paper, and two lace sets.
Both colourways of the HANON x Padmore & Barnes M387 Willow Sport will be available online from 09:00BST on Thursday 29th September.
