Despite the 1970's trend towards flared pants, 501 jeans stayed true to the tapered look. The fabric by this time was quite heavy and became almost hairy with washing. the fit is roomy at the top of the leg and generally looser around the top block.
The jean continued the tradition of red selvage, begun in 1927.
